TED video - Jacqueline Novogratz vertelt over Patient Capitalism
Al eerder linkte ik naar de inspirerende video talks van de TED conferenties, dé plek waar vooruitstrevende wetenschappers, ondernemers en politici jaarlijks samenkomen om ideeën te delen. En ik vind ze zo de moeite waard dat ik dat hierbij nog eens doe.
Gisteravond keek Jacqueline Novogratz van het scherm mijn woonkamer in om te vertellen over Geduldig Kapitalisme. Haar verhaal gaat over hoe zij in een periode van 20 jaar haar ideeën over het duurzaam investeren in Afrika ontwikkelde, juist naast of ondanks de traditionele ontwikkelingshulp.
Jacqueline Novogratz is pioneering new ways of tackling poverty. In her view, traditional charity rarely delivers lasting results. And commercial investors are also unwilling to seed the businesses and jobs that are needed in tough conditions. Her solution, outlined through a series of revealing personal stories, is “patient capital.” This means using philanthropic funds to help “bottom of the pyramid” entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground. Listening, truly listening, is key, she says, and the marketplace is the best listening device we have. The result: sustainable jobs, goods, services — and dignity — for the world’s poorest.
Als je zo’n video kijkt is het alsof je het enthousiasme en de inspiratie voelt overslaan tussen spreker en zaal. Mooi!
